What is a self-introduction?

A self-introduction explains who you are, what you do and what others need to know about you. You should provide a self-introduction any time you meet someone new and don’t have a third party to introduce you. Offer a self-introduction when you are:

  • Beginning an interview
  • Attending a hiring event
  • Networking with new connections
  • Giving a presentation
  • Meeting people at a trade show

A self-introduction should include your name and occupation (or desired occupation) and key facts that will help you make an impression on the person you’re speaking to. In a few sentences, cover the most important things that others need to know about you.

You have to watch additional material on youtube : https://youtu.be/QgjkjsqAzvo and collect a video link for self-introduction assignments, in the comments column below.

 1. What is poetry? Based on your opinion

-Poetry is a literary art that results from the expression and feelings of a person with language that is bound to rhythm, dimension, rhyme, lyrics, and verse.  The contents of the poetry are full of meaning with beautiful language.

2. What are genres of English Poetry? give an example of each genres

-Poetry can be divided into lyric, narrative, dramatic.

a. Lyric

An emotional writing focusing on thought and emotion - can consist of a song-like quality.

Go, Lovely Rose

BY EDMUND WALLER

Go, lovely rose!

Tell her that wastes her time and me,

That now she knows,

When I resemble her to thee,

How sweet and fair she seems to be.

Tell her that’s young,

And shuns to have her graces spied,

That hadst thou sprung

In deserts, where no men abide,

Thou must have uncommended died.

Small is the worth

Of beauty from the light retired;

Bid her come forth,

Suffer herself to be desired,

And not blush so to be admired.

Then die! that she

The common fate of all things rare

May read in thee;

How small a part of time they share

That are so wondrous sweet and fair!

b. Narrative

A poem which tells a story. Includes the subdivision epic, a long story which tells of the heroic ideals of a particular society, and ballad, which generally tell of an event of interest such as a crime. Example; "Hiawatha" by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.

3. Dramatic

Dramatic poetry encompasses a highly emotional story that's written in verse and meant to be recited. It usually tells a story or refers to a specific situation.

The Dream Called Life by Pedro Calderon de la Barca

DREAM it was in which I found myself.

And you that hail me now, then hailed me king,

In a brave palace that was all my own,

Within, and all without it, mine; until,

Drunk with excess of majesty and pride,

Methought I towered so big and swelled so wide

That of myself I burst the glittering bubble

Which my ambition had about me blown

And all again was darkness. Such a dream

As this, in which I may be walking now,

Dispensing solemn justice to you shadows,

Who make believe to listen; but anon

Kings, princes, captains, warriors, plume and steel,

Ay, even with all your airy theater,

May flit into the air you seem to rend

3. What are genres of Indonesian Poetry? give an example of each genres

a. Puisi Lama, adalah puisi yang terikat oleh aturan-aturan.

Example;

Pantun

Kalau ada jarum patah

Jangan dimasukkan ke dalam peti

Kalau ada kataku yang salah

Jangan dimasukan ke dalam hati

b. Puisi Baru, adalah bentuk puisi lebih bebas daripada puisi lama, baik dalam segi jumlah baris, suku kata maupun rima.

Example;

Doa karya Taufik Ismail.

Tuhan kami

Telah nista kami dalam dosa bersama

Bertahun-tahun membangun kultus ini

Dalam pikiran yang ganda

Dan menutupi hati nurani

Ampunilah kami

Ampunilah

Amin

Tuhan kami

Telah terlalu mudah kami

Menggunakan AsmaMu

Bertahun di negeri ini

Semoga Kau rela menerima kembali

Kami dalam barisanMu

Ampunilah kami

Ampunilah

Amin

Example; Puisi by Wiji Tukul

Peringatan

jika rakyat pergi

ketika penguasa pidato

kita harus hati-hati

barangkali mereka putus asa

kalau rakyat bersembunyi

dan berbisik-bisik

ketika membicarakan masalahnya sendiri

penguasa harus waspada dan belajar mendengar

bila rakyat berani mengeluh

itu artinya sudah gasat

dan bila omongan penguasa

tidak boleh dibantah

kebenaran pasti terancam

apabila usul ditolak tanpa ditimbang

suara dibungkam kritik dilarang tanpa alasan

dituduh subversif dan mengganggu keamanan

maka hanya ada satu kata: lawan!

TRIP TO JAVA

Diposting oleh Ratri Nur Islamiarti di 23.06 0 komentar
When I was in high school, my friends and I went to Java for ten days for a short English course in Pare, Kampung Inggris. Also, we visited several tourist attractions on the island of Java. My friends and I were accompanied by several teachers. I and a few friends joined the English Club, an extracurricular at school. But some are not.

Before leaving, of course, I prepare myself. Whether it's preparing expenses for me while in Java, preparing clothes, preparing all the equipment that I will need while I am there. I and my friends certainly go to Java using an airplane. I went to Tjilik Riwut Airport to be escorted by my parents. Arriving there, before leaving, I was accompanied by friends officially released by the principal for the short course. After that, we all checked in and so forth, and waited for our departure time.

After several hours of flight, we arrived at Juanda Airport, Surabaya. There we were awaited by a bus that would take us to our next destination, namely Kampung Inggris. Before reaching the English Village, we first stopped at the Angkut Museum, Malang. At that time there was celebrating Halloween, so many people dressed as ghosts. My friends and I went around, took pictures, tried rides, and bought ice cream. After being around, we gathered again with the group, and before continuing the trip to the English Village we ate first.

At midnight, we arrived at the English Village, Pare. We took a course at a place called Batara Guru, when we got there we unloaded the suitcases from the Bus. Then, our names were read one by one by the tutor who was there, to share in the room where we slept. I and my friends got a special house for us there. The house is very comfortable to live in. There is one spacious bedroom, then the living room, there is also a fish pond near the outside pavilion. We took a week of English courses there, starting in the morning after we had breakfast, and taking a break from the noontime to Asr, then continued until the evening. There we were taught by four tutors.

Then, after a week in Kampung Inggris, we wanted to continue our journey to Central Java, maybe precisely the Jogjakarta area. We were picked up again by bus, but this time the bus was bigger and more comfortable. We left the English village at night. We arrived in Jogja in the morning, after resting at a layover, showering and preparing. We went to the Borobudur temple, where we were required to invite foreign visitors to talk. So that we can practice the results of our courses. Borobudur Temple is very majestic, from Borobudur Temple we can see the surroundings. We also visited the Prambanan temple, the Prambanan temple is no less beautiful than Borobudur temple. There we can see statues, such as the Roro Jonggrang statue.

While in Central Java, we stayed at a guesthouse. We also visited Pindul Cave. In Goa pindul, we were invited to explore the cave using a buoy because the cave was above water. We were guided by tour guides, who explained in the cave. Of course in the cave is very dark, we only use flashlights from the tour guides. There are lots of bats there. The walls of the cave are very moist. When we want to get to the other end of the cave, we are challenged to try to jump from the top of the cliff in the cave to the water. At first, I was hesitant, but finally, I did it, I ventured to jump from the cliff.

Also, while in Central Java, we also went to Parang Tritis Beach. We came in the evening nearing sunset. The view is very beautiful, the sun looks very big when it will set, and slowly disappears. Of course, my friends and I did not forget to take pictures, to capture moments that will not be repeated.

Then, on the last night, my friends and I went to Sekaten. Sekaten is like a night market, which, if I'm not mistaken, is only held for one month a year. My friends and I went to grab a car. In Sekaten, we buy souvenirs, and we don't forget to buy food. We also tried a kora-kora vehicle, for me it was terrible. At midnight, we returned to the guesthouse to rest, because the next day we returned to Palangka Raya.

During my ten days in Java, me and friends have gone to many places.  Like, Borobudur Temple, Prambanan Temple, Pindul Cave, Parang Tritis Beach and others. It was a very memorable and enjoyable experience for me. And my friends I enjoyed the course and the trip we did. Of course, we create many memories that will not be forgotten.
